About the chart magic app

2019

Version T "Tourmalet"
Covered in version T are the Shimano Road part compatibility charts 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The "chart magic" app refers to the javascript-powered parts recommender form on the Shimano Compatibility compendium page. The magic app for celebrazio.net was first released in Feb. 2012 and most recently in Oct., 2019. The Android app was first released for beta in November, 2018.

Understanding the results - the magic app only reports known or implied compatibility matches. It actually does not clearly state incompatible combinations. So if the results seem to be missing something, it may be an incompatible combination per the charts, it may not be on the charts at all, or it may be because 2 parts are not related to each other. Brake calipers are not related to chains, for example, so matches will never show up for this combination.

Bugs? It's magic, but if you find one (like one of the matches just isn't right), don't hesitate to let us know using the contact page.

Classes of "compatibility". The first class of compatibility relationships established is the most basic: directly from the charts, connecting the lines. The first class is explicit and direct compatibility (2 parts clearly linked by a solid line). The B-level relationships are also explicit and direct. The next class are the extended sets of relationships: products connected by lines but indirectly, such as shifters (left column) to cranks (3rd column). Another class are the parallel relationships: products assumed to be compatible based on an equivalent part in the chart. This describes the triple brifters to calipers, which are omitted from the charts but assumed to have the same relationships as their equivalent double brifters.
